What is a re-roof?
A re-roof means stripping your existing roof covering back to the rafters and rebuilding it with a new breathable membrane, new battens, and either new tiles or slates or carefully reclaimed ones. It's the right answer when the problem is the whole roof rather than one area.
We've carried out re-roofs across Lincoln and Lincolnshire since 1980, on everything from terraced houses near Monks Road to large Victorian villas, churches and commercial buildings.
Signs your roof may need replacing
- Repeated leaks in different places
- Tiles or slates slipping across the roof, not just in one spot
- Nail fatigue on old slate roofs, with slates hanging loose
- Perished or missing felt when viewed from the loft
- A sagging roofline
- Porous, flaking or spalling tiles
- Daylight visible through the roof from inside the loft

How we carry out a re-roof
- Survey and quote. We inspect the roof, including from the loft, and give you a free written quote.
- Scaffold. Safe, proper access is erected before any work starts.
- Strip. We remove the old covering, setting aside any tiles or slates worth reusing.
- Timber check. We check the rafters and replace or strengthen any damaged timber.
- Membrane and battens. New breathable membrane and new, correctly gauged battens go on.
- Cover. We lay new or reclaimed tiles or slates, with new lead valleys, flashings and soakers.
- Finish. Ridges, hips, verges and ventilation are completed, with new fascias and guttering if needed.
- Clean up. We clear the site, remove the waste and hand over your 25-year written guarantee.

The main factors are the roof's size and pitch, the materials, the scaffolding, how many existing tiles or slates can be reused, and the condition of the timbers underneath.
