Why is my chimney breast damp?
Usually, rain is getting into the stack through weathered pointing, cracked flaunching or failed flashings. Condensation from a capped flue without ventilation is another cause. We’ll find out which it is.
Do you need scaffolding for chimney repairs?
Often, yes, for safe working at height. On some roofs, a chimney scaffold or roof ladder system is enough. We’ll advise when we quote.
Can you remove a chimney I no longer use?
Yes. We can take stacks down below roof level and tile or slate over, or cap them with ventilation so the flue stays dry.
How often should a chimney be repointed?
It varies with exposure and mortar type. Check the stack every few years, and after storms, and repoint when the mortar is visibly recessed or crumbling.
